Sketches by the author
I have always loved chapter and concept art, from Vintage sketches in fantasy books to bonus art in video games, so when I decided to publish my first novel, I wanted to have art at the beginning of every chapter.
Now, I did not want to take away from the reader's imagination by saying this is what the monster looks like. Instead, I wanted to create concepts of the story’s themes, how events are perceived, honest or not, or images of related events, like clues left out of time and place.
Concept art, to me, is sketches, black and white with minimal color, which I took to heart. I love monochromatic, and any color use should be to highlight a certain element.

Remedy Black,
The 3rd Street Butcher: a mother, a slasher, a doctor, and a total nightmare. Not much is known about her before Impact.
She is one of my earlier images, and you can see how my style developed over time. To see her earlier design (when my style was more Anime, check out the gallery below.
Alice Newborne,
the eternal optimist
Jack’s only living blood relative. She is an Eternal Optimus who chooses to use kindness and social debts as a survival tactic. She sees the world differently than others, where they see hopelessness, she sees opportunities.
Alice is another example of how my technique has improved over time.
Karen Newborne,
Heaven’s feral child
She was feral child that fell into their world and changed everything around her. She’s a former Badlander, and a mutant. She was dragged into a world that was stacked against her.
She was distrusting and would have died a lonely, painful death if not for Jack’s tribe, who took her in under the belief “if we all must survive, then let’s all cling together.”
She a different person now, who defeats her foes with kindness, and still wears the smile Newborne gave her years ago.
She is one of the earliest attempts at drawing in a more comic style as compared to anime.
Angel,
the child; the woman that the sun favors above all else.
After enduring the fallout of sacrifice in its purest form, she stopped living for herself and instead turned her efforts over to the Newborne Tribe to keep as many people alive as possible. “If we all must survive, then let’s all cling together.”
She saw survival not as what a collection of individuals could do, but instead what they all must do together. She is honest, and she is far from guilty, but that doesn’t mean she was wrong. It just means that she is willing to sacrifice.
